1. General information
Metaphysics is a compulsory subject of the fourth year of the Philosophy Degree that is directly related to the elective Ontology of the Present. It attempts to review, without claiming to be exhaustive, some of the fundamental moments and problems that make up the history of Western metaphysics up to the present. In addition, it is intended to serve as an introduction to the understanding of metaphysics as a mode of philosophical thought. The contents, which are structured from both a historical and systematic approach, will also address some of the fundamental metaphysical problems of the contemporary world.

2. Learning results
- Introduction to metaphysics as a form of thought.
- To know some of the fundamental moments that vertebrate metaphysics as a philosophical discourse seen from its history.
- To know and use the fundamental metaphysical notions that make up the Western tradition.
- To identify, formulate with precision and analyse the problems of the discipline both in relation to the philosophical tradition and to the problems of our time
- To understand the relationship of metaphysics with the rest of the philosophical disciplines.
-To analyse and interpret fundamental metaphysical texts.
- To know some of the most important debates and authors that have taken place within metaphysics starting from the contemporary world
- To reflect on some of the ideological and social implications of different metaphysical theories.

3. Towards a new ontology: from Husserl to Heidegger
3.1. Husserl and the beginnings of phenomenology
3.2. Heidegger's hermeneutic phenomenology
4. Heidegger and the "destruction" of traditional metaphysics
4.1. Metaphysics and "ontological difference"
4.2. Destruction of the metaphysics of subjectivity
4.3- Fundamental and analytical ontology of Dasein
4.4- Technology as a metaphysical problem
4. Academic activities
The methodology will be active, diversified and personalized. Theoretical classes will address the thematic nuclei proposed. In addition to the basic reference bibliography, a selection of the main and complementary bibliographic references, as well as the proposed preparatory readings , will be provided for each of the topics in the corresponding sessions. The tutoring sessions will also serve to direct them. In accordance with what has been said, the general methodological lines will be specified as follows:
1. Presentation of the subject by the teacher.
2. Active participation of the students in the activities. Discussion and dialogue in particular in the sessions of text commentary.
3. Reading, research and personal work by students.
5. Assessment system
First call:
Global assessment test (on the date established in the academic calendar)
CHARACTERISTICS: Written exercise consisting of two parts:
1. Completion of a text commentary on a topic related to the syllabus (60% of the grade).
2. Development of a topic chosen among those included in the syllabus and of which the teacher will have previously informed the students (40% of the grade).
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Knowledge of the basic concepts of the subject (0 to 4)
2. Argumentative capacity, conceptual precision and order of exposition (0 to 3)
3. Adequacy and relevance of the bibliographical references used for the exercise (0 to 3).
Second call: global assessment test identical to the previous one.
